One day workshop 35mm black & white film photography, including developing film and making prints.

This photograph • develop • print workshop is designed to kickstart your understanding of black and white film photography and enjoy a complete creative process in one day! Everything you need for the workshop is included: camera, film, chemistry, and printing materials. You just need to turn up.

Workshop Overview

This is a one day workshop – two people per workshop plus myself leading it. It begins at 9.00am and ends at 5.00pm on a choice of dates provided on Eventbrite.

What is it for? To gain a practical overview of black and white film photography, revisit black and white photography and/or complete a creative process in one day.

Who is it for? Anyone over eighteen. Beginners or enthusiasts interested in learning about film/analogue photography. Anybody seeking a great, one-day creative experience.

Workshop Includes:
  • Cameras: Provided for use during the workshop.
  • Film: Black and white film will be provided.
  • Chemistry: All materials and developing/fixing chemistry supplied.
  • Printing Materials: Enlarger, paper and developing/fixing chemistry supplied.
Timetable for the day:

Primarily to help with time management throughout the day. Loo breaks, drinks and snack breaks are a given! Bottled water, tea and coffee included in workshop price.

  • 9:00 am – 9:30 am: Introduction – workshop timings for the day
  • 9:30 am – 10:00 am: Camera, Load Film and How to Make Photographs
  • 10.00 am – 12:00 pm: Shooting Session (Outdoor or Studio)
  • 12:00 pm – 12.30 pm: Lunch Break
  • 12:30 pm – 2:30 pm: Develop Your Film
  • 2:30 pm – 4:30 pm: Make Enlargements/Prints From Your Film (for you to take away!)
  • 4:30 pm – 5:00 pm: Q&A, Feedback, and Finish.

‘Outdoor or studio’, as you might guess, can be weather dependent. Being outside will allow you to capture images as you feel and at your own pace. For studio, we would look at self-portrait, still life or portraits of each other. We can do both outdoor and studio if that suits.
